Every creator has a sending rhythm, and almost every one of them is built around the same thing: when the creator is awake and has time. Which is entirely reasonable and completely disconnected from when anyone is going to read it.
This sounds like a small optimization. It isn't, on any page with an international audience — which is most pages, because these platforms are not geographically constrained and your subscribers are wherever the internet is.
The problem with "best time to post"
The genre of advice that gives you a specific hour is answering the wrong question. Best for whom? Those numbers are averages across thousands of creators with completely different audiences, and averaging a US-heavy page with a European-heavy page produces a time that's wrong for both.
The only version of the question that has an answer is: when are my subscribers awake and idle? And that has a real answer, sitting in data you already have.
A message sent at the wrong hour doesn't get read later. It gets read never — it gets read as a number on a badge, underneath eleven other things that arrived after it.
How a message dies in the stack
Worth being precise about the mechanism, because it explains why the effect is bigger than it looks.
Send while a fan is asleep, and the message doesn't wait patiently for them. It goes to the bottom of a pile that builds all night from every creator they follow. They wake up, they see a notification count, and they process that count the way anyone processes a backlog: skimming, from the top, and stopping early. Your message is at the bottom of it.
Send while a fan is awake and idle, and the message arrives alone, in a moment where they have nothing else to do. Same message. Same price. Radically different competitive context.
Reading your own distribution
Start with aggregate geography — the platform tells you this. What you're looking for isn't the top country. It's the shape:
The concentrated case is the easy one and the rarest. If seventy percent of your page is in one region, you have one window, you should know it precisely, and everything should be built around it. The other thirty percent get served worse. That's the correct trade.
The bimodal case is where most established pages sit, and it's the one where a single send time is actively costing money. One send serves half your audience in prime hours and the other half at four in the morning. Alternating doesn't fix it — it just distributes the damage. Splitting the send does.
The diffuse case
Once no region dominates, aggregate geography stops being useful and individual activity data takes over. When did this specific fan last open a message? When do they reply? Those timestamps are a better predictor than their country, because a night-shift worker in Chicago has more in common with a European afternoon than with their neighbours.
This is the version that doesn't scale by hand, and it's why timing is one of the clearest arguments for having coverage rather than a creator with a scheduling app.
Timing is not the same problem as coverage
Two distinct things get conflated here. Scheduling solves send timing — you can queue a message for 3am and go to sleep. Scheduling does not solve what happens when the fan replies at 3.04am.
That's the part where the money is. A well-timed mass message that lands at the right hour generates replies at that hour, and a reply is a conversation, and a conversation is where the purchase happens. Landing the message perfectly and then leaving the fan talking to nobody for nine hours converts the timing advantage back into nothing. Worse than nothing, arguably — you've demonstrated the room is empty.
Take your last twenty mass messages. Note the send hour and the open rate. If they're all sent within the same three-hour band, you don't have timing data — you have one data point repeated twenty times. Test one send four hours off your normal window before concluding anything.
Weekly rhythm, not just daily
The day-of-week effect is real and smaller than creators expect, with one exception: the pattern is driven by disposable attention, not disposable income. Payday timing gets a lot of attention in creator advice and matters less than the simpler variable of whether someone is bored right now. A fan with money and no idle time doesn't buy. A fan with idle time finds the money.
Which is why the hour matters more than the day, and why the hour is the thing almost nobody optimizes.
The reframe
Your sending schedule is currently a document about your own life — when you wake up, when you shoot, when you have a free evening. None of that is information about your business. The subscribers are distributed across a planet and they're deciding whether to open something based on what else arrived in the last four hours.
Look at where they actually are. Then send to them, not to yourself.
